MANY HANDS MAKE BRIGHT WORK

Colours, Materials, Finishes Consultant Laura Tofts selects her top trends for the coming season: natural materials, upcycling and pink (and no, it’s not just for Barbie)

TREND

Natural materials

As we seek sustainability and a sense of grounding – a connection to our Mother Earth – our love for wholly natural furniture continues. What we have available to us in terms of materials is truly a gift from the planet: not only are they beautiful to look at and lovely to touch, but their durability should not be underestimated. Looking deeper into this trend we can see that our longing and passion for things hand-crafted is still going strong; we love and respect artisans’ traditional skills and we want to keep their incredible craft alive.

TREND

Re-purposing

In our continued bid to save our planet and lessen our impact on our beloved Mother Earth, the re-purposing of clothes and objects has become ever more popular. This trend has opened up an avenue of creativity, making us really think out of the box to re-imagine objects innovatively. The end results are truly surprising pieces that have a story woven into them which we love to tell and share. This light (above) by Ralph Gallagher is a great example of this re-purposing trend.

TREND

Pink

Our love for the colour pink started way before the Barbie movie, but there’s no doubt that the film reinforced it. Pink is a colour of comfort and brings calm and peace to us (which is one of the reasons it’s used on prison walls). Post-Covid we seek anything that makes us feel safe and happy, and pink for both fashion and décor is so pleasant on the eye. You won’t be stuck for choice once you start looking.
